The Allegories of Hope – Ville Laaksonen

Hope is an exhibition about strength. It is a reflection on life and the future as an integral part of everyday existence. The world is here. The best time to live it is now. The moments lost in the imprisoning energy of angst and anxiety are merely the other side of the coin. Life can be embraced with an open mind, where there is no need to believe in the existence of good or evil. Hope is an attractive way of seeing life as an opportunity—a spring of life. Hope makes change possible. People who are crazy enough to believe they can change the world are the ones who do.

This exhibition examines the world from the perspective of a thirty-something man, in relation to enduring life values. The works are an anarchistic declaration of hope between humanity and life itself. Laaksonen’s artistic foundation is rooted in the fine art tradition, while his painting expression belongs to the present.

Flashes of the future, a burning desire for life—dreams come alive. In Laaksonen’s paintings and sculptures, hope is captured as empowering experiences—as positive encounters with truth and beauty. The artist does not believe in superficial embellishment or “cutesy” subjects. Likewise, he rejects the indulgence of provocative negativity and populist imagery. A painting is what it is; a painting.
