Climate Change – The Metaphor of Jusélius Mausoleum in Pori
Crayon drawings and sculptures

“During my art historical journeys to Finnish Golden Age art and the foundations of Finnish cultural identity, I also concretely explored the landscapes of Akseli Gallen-Kallela: I took a boat trip from Tampere to Kalela in Ruovesi and visited the altar of Gallen-Kallela’s fresco art in Pori, at the Sigrid Jusélius Mausoleum. As the ice sheets have started to melt and the climate changes, the water level threatens to rise, New York and Amsterdam are at risk. I thought about Pori and the Jusélius Mausoleum, and the frescoes once ruined by moisture. What will happen? Is art eternal? Will there be a boy to restore the destroyed artworks of the father? …
This is my statement and concern about the effects of climate change on our cultural heritage.”

Paintings

Man attempts to explain his role in creation through different systems of truth, be they scientific, religious, or political models. Personally, I am a skeptic grounded in science at the level of reason, and a mystic at the level of emotion. In my paintings, these contradictory elements are found in a synthesis, an artistic worldview. In my paintings, the myths of world history, different worldviews, and the realities of the present world combine into a new mythology.
I am a visual artist living in Riihimäki. At Poriginal Gallery, I have large acrylic paintings on display, as well as smaller, more poetic watercolor works.
