Wind, Sand, and Photographs from Yyteri’s Sand Dunes – Visa Vehmanen

Visa Vehmanen has been actively photographing the landscapes and nature of Yyteri’s sand dunes since 2006, making dozens of photography trips there during all seasons and times of day.
Vehmanen seeks to find visually interesting, beautiful, and surprising perspectives of the landscape.
The exhibition showcases the beautiful dune nature of Yyteri from viewpoints that may not be familiar to the typical Yyteri visitor. Long exposure times, close-up or wide-angle lenses can reveal aspects of the landscape that the eye cannot perceive.

The exhibition features around 20 pigment inkjet color photographs printed on aluminum composite boards. The digital image editing is mainly limited to adjusting contrast and colors moderately, ensuring that the final result remains realistic.

After the Poriginal Gallery, the exhibition will continue to Galleria Kui?, Ulvila Library, where it will be on display from August 1 to 22, 2011.

Visa Vehmanen’s photographs now also decorate the corridors and lobby spaces of the newly renovated and expanded Pori Medical Center. The photo installation was completed in spring 2011 and includes more than 30 photographs, the majority of which were taken in Yyteri.

Visa Vehmanen held his first Yyteri-themed photo exhibition at Luontotalo Arki in Pori in 2008. He lives in Pori and works as a teacher of mathematical subjects at Ulvila Secondary School. Vehmanen is a self-taught photographer who works on photography alongside his primary occupation.
