Porin Saskiat ry, Scholarship Exhibition – Carita Ahlqvist and Kari Kallioinen
Pori Saskiat ry.n’s autumn scholarship exhibition at Poriginal Gallery 29.9. – 16.10. presents two new promising artists, Carita Ahlqvist and Kari Kallioinen. Both are alumni of Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts. Carita Ahlqvist creates installations, Kari Kallioinen’s (=Stark) works are mixed media paintings.
This is how the fellows describe their works and their work:
Carita Ahlqvist
My works consist of sculptural installations. Linen and gauze give form to a human being in a necessary transformation. The fragile, translucent materials outline the reality of experience.
I address the theme of human form and formlessness. What layers we are composed of. How we are built from other people. I try to understand human nature.
The process of making is about communicating and connecting with the world. Form is created in constant movement, stopping for a moment.

My paintings made with a combination technique represent humanity in me and in everything around me. Humanity seems to be an easily lost resource at times. You just have to keep up with it.
I create whatever I feel is most appropriate for the situation. I like strong colour contrasts, as well as the dialogue between tight lines and lines drawn on water. I balance storm and zen. Expressivity and random interpretation give the imagination a lot of possibilities and can lead the viewer to new experiences.
