ART PRINTS – Mari Aspola, Katariina Mannio, Meri Pauniaho

We are artists from Rauma, a group of three women of different ages. We are united by our early membership in the Rauma Printmakers Association and our current work in shared studio spaces at RTG, located in Heikkilä House in Old Rauma. Over the years, we have grown close to one another. Openness and trust in discussions about the significance of our work and our individual images have been crucial in leading us to form this group.

A shared element in our work is a strong desire for beauty. The subjects of our works are drawn from everyday life; we depict the beauty of the ordinary, creating images of silence as a counterbalance to the restlessness of modern times. Our themes include people, interiors, nature experiences, and studies of form.

Our images speak through juxtaposition. The private meets the universal, and the viewer can identify aspects that resonate with their own life situation in our works. We do not categorize ourselves or our subjects by age groups, but instead, we challenge our audience to reflect on the past, present, and future as part of a whole.

Our works are prints, and our techniques include non-toxic cardboard printmaking, woodcut, and linocut. Color is an essential part of our works: color theory considerations, complementary color pairs, gradients of similar hues, and dark-light contrasts form the theoretical foundation of our works, alongside the conceptual ideas.

We have previously held two joint exhibitions: one in the winter of 2012 in Rauma at Galleria Kempas and another in the summer at the Liljelund Hall in the Culture Centre Crusell in Uusikaupunki. Now, it’s time for Pori. In our exhibition on the upper floor of Poriginal Gallery, we are displaying works created over the last couple of years, as well as a few brand new prints.
