CLASH OF TITANS – Aukusti Manninen, Viljami Heinonen, Ville Kirjanen

We are three visual artists active in Satakunta. All of us graduated from the Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts. Aukusti Manninen and Viljami Heinonen are painters. Ville Kirjanen primarily works with sculpture. We are united by our work through traditional means of visual art and our desire to renew established conventions.

Our exhibition presents not only each of our individual artistic productions but also works created together. Each artist’s production deals extensively with humans and their environment. Each approaches the subject from a different perspective and through their own visual language. Aukusti Manninen’s works depict human activity and humans as part of the global community, Viljami Heinonen’s works are characterized by structural elements and the juxtaposition of painterly contradictions in a partly abstract visual world. Ville Kirjanen’s works address human internal neuroses and desires.

The expressive brushwork of Manninen and Heinonen is married with Kirjanen’s works through a shared color palette. The organic form language also ties the whole together. Outside of the independent works, Kirjanen’s ceramics and fiberglass sculptures serve as a narrative in the space for Heinonen’s and Manninen’s painting series. In the installation, ceramic wall reliefs spread into the gallery space as various small sculptures, acting as intermediaries between the paintings hung on the walls. Thus, the gallery space itself becomes an installation, through which a discourse on the neurotic existence of modern humans is created.
