RO-Projects – Tuomo Rosenlund & Pekko Orava

The RO-Projects team, or R.O.P. for short, consists of visual artist Tuomo Rosenlund and carpenter Pekko Orava. Our works are painted sculptures where a two-dimensional image surface merges with a three-dimensional form.

The content of our works explores nature and the living environments that humans have created for themselves, both mentally and physically. The human figure is often present in our works only through the traces of their actions, or at most as a small and anonymous figure, playing its part in the larger whole. The main focus is often on nature, which is often personified in the form of a single tree or forest, representing life itself and its resilience.

Our work is divided into artistic design and execution, managed by Tuomo Rosenlund, and technical design and execution, which is the responsibility of Pekko Orava. Our works often begin, both mentally and physically, in joint meetings and brainstorming sessions. During these sessions, rough sketches and basic ideas for the works are created.

EXHIBITION

The exhibition “RO-Projects” at Poriginal Gallery is our group’s first solo exhibition. It features five works from 2011-2013. The downstairs is dominated by our latest work “Passage,” which measures approximately 3x3x3 meters. Upstairs will feature another work completed this spring, the triptych “Open Source / Avoin Lähde.”

In the downstairs graphics corner, another collaboration project involving Rosenlund is on display. These are graphic works created with Johanna Pohjavirta. The ink prints combine Pohjavirta’s photographs and Rosenlund’s drawings.
