IMPRINT – Julia Strand
The theme of my exhibition at Poriginal Gallery is wholes and details. Most of the works in the exhibition consist of several parts, with each one repeating the same shape and technique. The details and variations in color change through different combinations of glazes and oxides. The inspiration for the works comes from nature and the beauty of small details. When observing the pieces in the exhibition, thoughts may drift towards the shapes of nature’s surfaces, maps, and various imprints and stains. What kind of marks are left by humans – on nature, objects, and places? What kind of marks are formed by the influence of seasons, erosion, or topography?
In 2010, I graduated as a visual artist from Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in Kankaanpää, specializing in sculpture. Currently, I am studying ceramics and glass art at Aalto University. This exhibition also marks my return to Satakunta, a region I haven’t visited since my graduation.
My exhibition at Poriginal Gallery is a compilation of my works from the past two years, in line with the theme. It is my second solo exhibition. I hope you enjoy it. More information about me and my works can be found at www.juliastrand.fi.
