PAINTINGS – Vaula Valpola
The theme of my paintings depicts nature, including nature shaped by humans. I feel that this is the most essential aspect for me.
Often, the painting begins with a question: What if? What if I painted with markers and combined it with oil painting? What if, with a fast tool like a marker, I painted slowly, and with a slow, stiffer oil painting technique, I aimed for a fast, spontaneous result?
I want to start with curiosity and experimentation. Along the way, darker colors and areas emerge that seem impossible to overcome. A quick, sure stroke requires a sure mind, which is found slowly. Slow work requires the ability to wait, but to succeed, the reactions must be spontaneous. What if my conscious choices are ultimately insignificant, and the painting proceeds on its own subconscious path?
