LAYERS – Tuulia Iso-Tryykäri

I am interested in the human being and the countless ways in which stories about people and humanity can be told. A painting generally begins with a thought, feeling, or experience, which transforms into a physical process through the act of working. At the beginning of the process, I place myself into the situation within the painting, and it is important for me to experience it personally. I am the model for my paintings, and they are often self-portraits. What is important is the act of looking and daring to be looked at. The canvas is a surface on which I have learned to release negative feelings and thoughts, which I might not otherwise express aloud.
