RIGHTS AND BEAUTY – Peter Holmgård, Hanne Ivars, Antti Keitilä, Mikko Maasalo, Denise Ziegler

The exhibition challenges the visitor to experience the works and the exhibition space through the associations formed by the concepts of right and beauty. Rightly beautiful. True beauty. The right to beauty. Beautiful justice. Beauty justifies…

The Danish-Finnish artist group designed the exhibition on-site last summer. A central element for the group is the dialogue created through the works. The group has been making joint exhibitions in various configurations since 2004.

Peter Holmgård, sculptor, painter, performance artist, Copenhagen.
Present in Pori from Mon-Fri, November 28–December 2.

Sculpture: I will make a 3-D Frottage of the Poriginal exhibition space. With paper, glue, string, etc., I will rub on a new surface, a new skin to some elements of the building, the wooden pillars, the beams of the roof, etc. Then I peel off the skin and use it to make a dark and twisted sculpture.
Performance: On the opening day, the artists will come together for a simple inauguration ceremony. The ceremony will be a Musique Concrete-ish performance action involving sound effects and drinking wine.

Hanne Ivars, media artist, Helsinki

Soft
My puppet animation Soft is part of a series dealing with the relationship between humans, themselves, and each other. The series features themes that are thought to positively impact the human experience and humanity, such as softness, lightness, light, beauty, love, and helping others. The protagonist of Soft is a person who has chosen to nurture themselves toward a more positive and spiritually growing direction — someone who can share their wisdom and light with others.
Script, animation, and production: Hanne Ivars. Music: Musician Tuomo Puranen. Duration: 3 minutes.

Antti Keitilä, sculptor, Helsinki
Present in Pori from Wed-Fri, November 30–December 2.

Summer Modernism
This work began in the summer of 2015 while chopping firewood, with a painting bag within reach. Hence, I call it the Summer Modernism series. The series consists of sculptures carved from wooden logs, between sculpture and painting, and a shelf set for them. The Summer Modernism series playfully navigates the borderlands of art experience, if that’s even possible with oil paints.
November 22, 2016, Antti Keitilä

Mikko Maasalo, visual artist, Helsinki
Present in Pori from Wed-Fri, November 30–December 2.

In this exhibition, I present a simplified model using painting techniques of how the presentation of the work alters and reshapes the artwork. In the painting on display, I have captured the shadows cast by the previous exhibition space’s lighting around its previous version. As the painting series progresses, the surface of the latest painting in the series expands in relation to the previous one due to external influences. Although the concept of the painting remains the same, its appearance changes from presentation to presentation.

Denise Ziegler, visual artist, Helsinki/Pori
