ROUTA – Frida Moukulainen

My name is Frida Moukulainen, and I am a visual artist who graduated from the Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts in 2014. I live and work in Niinisalo, Satakunta.

I paint both on fabric and on transparent acrylic sheets attached to the fabric, which together form a complete conceptual and technical composition. The soft oil paint reveals the collage elements of the fabric surface underneath and the colors painted onto it.

The works in my exhibition Routa are my latest creations. My paintings have emerged through a more meaningful process compared to previous works. What remains from the clarity is the painting itself, without the problem of something to paint. Pain and complex thoughts have shifted to a faster and more immediate process of painting, though water, as a familiar element, is still present.

In the exhibition Routa, I paint winter waters, underwater views, and the moment when the water freezes. For me, water represents an inner landscape, depth, and boundlessness—what lies behind the presentation. The abstract human.
