Opening on January 10th, 18:00-20:00, welcome!
The 2020 exhibition season at Poriginal Gallery opens once again with a joint exhibition by three artists from Satakunta. The artists represent three local art associations, and their task was to peer-review the applications received by Poriginal Gallery in October 2019 for the upcoming year’s exhibition slots. The exhibition held in January directs attention to the gallery’s operational methods and how contemporary art offerings in Satakunta are built year by year.
Inspired by mysticism, mythology, and religions, Hanna Valtokivi was chosen to be part of the 2020 jury through the Pori Artists’ Association. For Valtokivi, art means bringing the invisible to light, surrendering to the unknown, experimenting, and discovering new things. The theme of her exhibition is “the point of no return”, a moment after which there is no return to the past.
Representing the Artist’ Association of Rauma in the 2020 exhibition selection at Poriginal Gallery is Tommi-Wihtori Roström, a graphic designer with over 20 years of experience in Satakunta. After a prolonged maritime phase, Roström’s imagery is now firmly returning to land, from infinity back towards his own sphere of life and the surrounding landscape. He aims to illustrate nature experiences and associated memories that have been meaningful since childhood.
Karoliina Korvuo, who moved to Pori just over a year ago, was selected for the task from NYTE Ry. A performance artist, Korvuo is interested in the performativity of art objects, their ability to communicate the goals and actions related to the creation of a work. Exhibition visitors will have a unique opportunity to see Korvuo’s animation installation exploring the power of images, which the artist drew by hand in the display window of NYTE Ry’s new office space in the fall of 2019. A secret raw version of the animation was shown in the same window on Pori Day.
