ARTBORETUM – Pori Art School’s Spring Exhibition for Children and Youth

Pori Art School will open its annual spring exhibition for children and youth at Poriginal Gallery from April 23 to May 10, 2022. The exhibition is teeming with life, as the students’ works are inspired by nature and the entire living world.

Poriginal Gallery has been transformed into a wild, overgrown garden, where colorful flowers intertwine with slithering carnivorous plants, and giant lily pads float in a pond. Among the vegetation, visitors can hear the calls of exotic birds and encounter imaginative characters as well as mysterious creatures. The exhibition is designed as an immersive installation, inviting visitors on an adventurous journey through a world of nature and fantasy. The peculiar and vibrant landscapes created by students aged 4 to 19 offer plenty to explore and marvel at!

The exhibition also features the final projects of the school’s graduating students. In spring 2022, Saana Haapio, Ella-Mari Halminen, Enni-Leena Leino, Elli Murtomaa, and Iida Strömberg have completed their final projects. A final project is an independently planned and executed work that students dedicate an entire academic year to completing. This year’s final works include drawings, paintings, and photographs. Many of the students have attended the art school throughout their entire childhood, and the skills they have honed through years of dedication are evident in their artworks.

Pori Art School provides basic education in the arts for children, youth, and adults aged 4 to 19, following the extensive syllabus in visual arts. Currently, 384 children and young people, as well as 40 adults, are studying at the school. Pori Art School is a member of the Association of Finnish Art Schools and actively participates in both regional and national art education initiatives, as well as international projects, exhibitions, and the development of basic arts education.
