Porin Saskiat ry, Scholarship Exhibition: Kirsi Julku & Leevi Kämäräinen
Kirsi Julku (b. 1993) is in her final year at Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts, working mainly in painting and printmaking. The main character in her works is a skeleton. While a skeleton often brings death to mind, in Julku’s art, it is more about life, representing all of us as a stripped-down version of you and me. Julku’s art deals with time and place where appearance does not affect individual identity, and the skeletons in her works create a dialogue about the idea of equality. Surrealism, symbolism, and nature-themed subjects have been present in Julku’s art from the beginning, and she draws inspiration from the events around her, which she processes and organizes through her art from her own perspective. With her art, Julku wants to encourage the viewer to awaken their own inner skeleton to ponder eternal questions about life, death, and everything in between.
Leevi Kämäräinen (b. 1994) works with various techniques, focusing mainly on painting. His works address the endless cycle of nature and the absurd contradictions of human existence. The influence of expressionism and symbolism, as well as the significance of colors, are essential parts of Kämäräinen’s style. Kämäräinen is in his second year at Kankaanpää School of Fine Artsl. Previously, he studied at Liminka Art School and trained as a wood artisan at the Handicrafts and Art Industry Vocational School in Oulu.
The exhibition at Poriginal Gallery features Kämäräinen’s paintings and mixed media works from the past year and a half.
