VARIABLES – Maria Pääkkönen & Sanna Horvath
Sanna Horvath & Maria Pääkkönen: Variables
Poriginal Gallery, October 15 – 30, 2022
In the joint exhibition Variables, Sanna Horvath and Maria Pääkkönen explore themes of change and transience through their distinct artistic methods. Maria Pääkkönen’s pencil-based works center around the temporal process of drawing and the resulting trace of the medium. In contrast, Sanna Horvath’s works stem from the aesthetic qualities emerging from the materiality of handmade paper. Despite their differences, the artists’ subtle works share a sense of hapticity, a time-intensive creative process, and detailed drawing and engraving marks. The themes, drawn from an organic world, grow into abstract surfaces and fictional organisms.
The artists’ work has been supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland and the Turku Art Society.
