In the Whirlwind of Time (Ajan pyörteessä)
In the upstairs gallery of Poriginal, 34 mixed-media paintings on canvas are on display, created over the last two years. The expressive, abstract paintings are made with acrylic, sand, ash, and paper. The paintings emerge entirely intuitively from an “inner source.” The viewer has the opportunity to interpret the paintings according to their own “eye.” What the artist herself sees in them is later expressed through the title given to the painting.
Marja-Leena Römer moved to Germany in 1963 after completing her secondary school education (Pori Girls’ High School). She studied interior architecture there. After three years of ZEN training, she began her career as an artist. For the past ten years, she has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany, as well as in Pori in 1992 (Satakunnan Kansa, October 22, 1992) and in Viasvedellä in 2000 (SK, August 5, 2000). An article about her life as an artist was published in the Eeva magazine this October.
Marja-Leena Römer lives and works ten months a year in a small village near Cologne, Germany, in a 200-year-old “Fachwerkhaus,” and spends two months in her summer studio in Viasvedellä, Pori.
At the same time, Marja-Leena Römer’s 30 flower-themed paintings, “I say it through flowers,” are on display at Taide Eloranta in Pori, North Park 2. These delicate line-drawn paintings charm with their unfinished quality. The viewer is invited to experience and see “IT” for themselves.
