BORROWED TIME – Frans Nybacka

Frans Nybacka (b. 1993) is a visual artist residing in Helsinki. He approaches his subjects through painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, video and sound. Nybacka’s exhibitions are serial entities that always tend to travel to a new world, whether it is an inner fantasy land fueled by video games, memories, dreams or a slightly distorted version of our own. Whatever the subject matter, the works often contain an undertone of magical nature and suggest an emotional presence in all things. He studied art at Aalto University and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Finland.

In ”Borrowed Time”, the focus is on stagnant time, the use of power, and the sensitivity of the moment. The exhibition consists of paintings that uses films and paper artifacts from the real world as a reference. However, the works do not refer to the films directly; instead, they serve merely as visual material through which the world of the exhibition is constructed. The name of the exhibition simultaneously refers to a dark and bright experience of the time we live in, as well as the borrowing of  the material.
