I’M YOUR MAN – Lotta Ingman, Heli Vehkaperä

“Lotta Ingman’s works explore the material forces of painting with a hand that is careful and deliberate, a hand that does not fully let go of these forces yet does not constrain them with any concept either. Ingman’s paintings are always structured by a conscious brushstroke; her hand and its shifting touch bring order (or disorder) to the colored paint as it spreads across the surface. The animation of color always radiates outward into sensations. These intersect with other bodies, creating an expanded plane of immanence that also contains intense emotions and thoughts.”

Heli Vehkaperä (b. 1976) works with painting, paper, and textile-based artworks. In her artistic practice, she is interested in how an image becomes visible and in the dialogue between the artist and the artwork. Human experience, being in the world, uncertainty, and incompleteness—as well as learning to endure these aspects in her work—form the foundation of her practice. Through art-making, a person reveals themselves to themselves, and the same can happen when art is viewed and experienced.

At Poriginal Gallery, Vehkaperä’s works from a few years ago are presented alongside her newest creations.

Heli Vehkaperä lives and works in Huittinen, Finland. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, in 2002 and from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2010. She has been active in the art field, holding several exhibitions in the Helsinki metropolitan area, including at Helsinki Art Museum (HAM) Gallery, and participating in group and collection exhibitions, most recently in the “Pehmo” exhibition at HAM in 2023. Her works are included in the collections of the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki Art Museum (HAM), and the Finnish State Art Collection.
