PAINTINGS – PIRJO IHAMÄKI, RAILI ROSTIALA-LAAKSONEN, AND LEENA WINTER-KOSKI

PRESS RELEASE

Three artists from Pori, Pirjo Ihamäki, Raili Rostiala-Laaksonen, and Leena Winter-Koski, are showcasing their paintings at Poriginal Gallery. All three graduated from Pori Art School’s painting department in 1998.

Pirjo Ihamäki
Studying the human face is both challenging and fascinating. It shows the traces of life, the entire story. A person is created in the image of God, and therefore each one is valuable and equal. I have not primarily wanted to make portraits, but instead explore what color can express in almost petrified faces. The mountains I have painted are relatively unchanging compared to a human’s age, and in them, color also conveys the atmosphere I have experienced.

Raili Rostiala-Laaksonen
The starting point of my work has been space. I have approached the subject through imagined space, place, landscape, as well as feelings and thoughts. Balancing a full-time job, family, etc., with painting gives a certain tone to my work. My paintings are images—lived, passed by, future, and those that are etched in my mind in the present moment.

Leena Winter-Koski
The works in this exhibition are mostly large-scale, abstract tempera paintings created during the current year. These paintings could be described as “emotional images” of life, both past and present.
