Paintings – Raija Eklund

In the autumn of 2003, I began painting portraits, which I then named MOMENTS. The individuals are not acquaintances of mine, nor do they represent any specific person. Nowadays, I think that it could even be a mere blink of an eye—a faint whisper somewhere, and everything depends on the receiver. Light and shadow play an essential role in these oil paintings, where the atmosphere and surroundings are dark.

I have thought of it as depicting a memory—something emerging from the depths of recollection, where not all details are equally distinct.

I live and work in Lappeenranta.
