Paintings – Ari Koivisto

My exhibition consists of oil paintings on acrylic-painted surfaces in various sizes, created between 2001 and 2003. Strong colors, their harmonious and tense relationships, as well as the free-rhythm form of the line, have always fascinated me.

The main elements of my abstract paintings are color and line. The colors meet each other and appear as surfaces and spaces. The free-form line acts as a construction against the background. There can be one or several lines (usually two), and the line can also appear closed, oval in shape. The painting process combines the planned and the unconscious, with experimentation and chance playing a key role.
