“Paintings of Nature” – NIKO PALOKANGAS
My paintings consist of abstract networks of lines. When I start a painting, I have no idea what the final result will be. Continuing the process is the most important aspect of my work. I am inspired by nature—or rather, I experience nature and its diversity. When I paint, I feel as if I am elsewhere—not in my studio, but lost in thoughts between the present, the future, and the past.
Often in the evening, the spiritual music playing on the radio brings my thoughts back to the present moment. I frequently paint while listening to the radio. Through it, I gain a sense of the absurdity of the world and the relentless race of society—a race that cannot be won. Thus, my paintings speak of the present day, the experience of nature, and its loss.
I translate these thoughts onto a two-dimensional surface, which I find both a challenging and fascinating task.
