OIL AND GOUACHE PAINTINGS – Pirjo Huttunen

My exhibition at Poriginal gallery is my second at this gallery. It has been two years since my last exhibition. MEDIA RELEASE

Have the themes changed? Hardly. There are still a few cityscapes and landscapes. This time the subject matter also includes still lifes, portraits and impressionist flower meadows. One might think that the subject matter is fragmented and that it is difficult to find a clear overall picture. The coherence could have been achieved by making the works similar in size. However, the paintings are very different in size, although the small paintings are more numerous, due to the fact that I did not have access to a separate workspace. All the works were created at home.

The works are quite colourful. Colours play a central role in my paintings – I have not shied away from strong colours such as yellow, red or green. The impressionistic style of painting is still dominant in my work and I have deliberately avoided meticulous work. Most of my works are done in one-off paintings, with the exception of a few. I could also be described as a traditional painter in the sense that the subjects have been real and recognisable. There are hardly any abstract landscapes or still lifes in my work. I hope that my work will bring visual experiences and especially pleasure to the viewer. After all, there is no arguing about matters of taste.
