Laura Lehenkari:
The work I installed in the upstairs gallery contains over a hundred images of faces. These hundreds of expressions reflect all the human—and sometimes inhuman—emotions that each of us experiences, some daily, others more rarely. Some days, it feels as if one experiences all the emotions of life at once, while on other days, time passes without feeling anything at all. Often, we are also forced to suppress our emotions, as culturally ingrained manners prevent our faces from revealing our inner feelings. Yet, in each of us, there is both rage and shyness. But every day and every moment, somewhere in the world, someone feels the same as you do. Perhaps that’s comforting?
My small sculptures are like single-frame comics. Tiny, fleeting scenes from imagined lives and thoughts. Internal states of mind and fleeting impulses shaped into visible forms.
Sanna Pajunen:
What is nature? The trees around us, human “nature,” the city.
Does nature exist in its purest form? What about our memories, hopes, and simple things that imprint on our minds and linger in our memory?
My nature is thoughts of moments that rise as images in my mind and take shape as works. Observations, everyday signs, shades in the air, sounds, and strange distortions. Purposeless actions, words, and atmospheres. Structures overlapping with one another, assumptions in looking, seeing, and the flow of thought.
Above all, silence, moments of solitude, melancholy, self-irony, and my “nature.”
