Printmakers’ Association Pori, 15 Years
The Printmakers’ Association Pori , the only organization in Northern Satakunta focused on printmaking, celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2008. On December 1, 1993, six visual artists, all graduates of the Pori Art School and interested in printmaking, founded the association to raise awareness of their art form and to offer like-minded artists space and tools for creating their own works.
Within the multifaceted field of visual arts, printmaking is still divided into four main categories based on technique: intaglio, relief printing, planographic printing, and silkscreen. Printmakers Pori have mainly focused on the first two, with metal etching, which belongs to intaglio, being both the most well-known and the most popular among the artists.
From its humble beginnings as a small artist association with just six members, the Printmakers’ Association Pori has grown over the years into an organization with more than thirty artists, primarily from northern Satakunta. The association now has its own printmaking workshop with gallery spaces attached.
To mark the beginning of its anniversary year, the Association is hosting a 15th-anniversary exhibition at Poriginal Gallery. The exhibition features prints and drawings by the association’s members from recent years.
