Weather Museum | Porin Saskiat ry, Scholarship Exhibition – Iina Vartia

There are many museums dedicated to various subjects. Has one of the most common topics of conversation, the weather, been museumized? There are, of course, natural science museums that present the ways weather is formed. But where are the experiences and everyday observations of the environment, as expressed in conversations, stored? The task of a museum is to depict the entirety of human life. Therefore, it is important to remember the ordinary, perhaps even too self-evident things.

This exhibition is a proposal for a Weather Museum. It contemplates the concept of a museum and asks: can weather be museumized? The Weather Museum focuses on recording and presenting experiences. As a result of climate change, the state of nature is changing rapidly. In just 50 years, everything may be radically different. The works documenting nature aim to present the present time to future generations. The works depict, among other things, cloudiness and rain, but encourage enjoying the diversity of weather and nature.
