SHALLOW TIME – Simo Saarikoski
The exhibition features a series of watercolors, ink paintings and plaster sculptures.
“Shallow Time” is an attempt to understand our time and its phenomena and how it
affects us collectively. It seeks to capture the spirit of time that always slips through
our fingers when we try to define it by explicable means. Anthropologists have
different terms for different concepts of time. Shallow time refers to thin or superficial
time, life at this very moment.
Among other things, thoughts related to the following concepts and phenomena have
inspired the artist’s work: personal branding, how to find kindness towards ourselves
and others on social media, populism in its various forms, collective individualism,
cancel culture, escapism through new age spirituality and conspiracy theories.
The works featured in the exhibition were created between 2021 and 2024.
The artist’s work and the exhibition has been supported by the Kone
Foundation and Arts promotion Cenre Finland.
